Calls to Action:

Independence Delegate Candidates

UPDATE SEPT. 18, 2015: Several independence activists have enrolled at the last minute to become candidates for a delegate post, representing their island, in the upcoming Na'i Aupuni 'Aha (early 2016). Many had previously avoided the Kana'iolowalu and OHA lists, and consider these "rolls", and Na'i Aupuni, as a push for federal recognition. However, now these activists are determined to enter the Na'i Aupuni 'Aha to push back against federal recognition and to promote the cause of restoration of the Kingdom of Hawai'i as the most desirable political option for self-governance. Please vote for these candidates if you are enrolled (and thus able to participate in Na'i Aupuni) or find other ways to support them if you abstain from these processes. If you might consider enrolling to vote for independence and Kingdom restoration, then please do that too. Mahalo!  (Go to www.unclekuching.com for more info.)

The Occupation Causes Widespread, Irreversible Damage & Suffering

Contrary to what most people believe about Hawai'i as a vacation or retirement paradise, the situation in Hawai'i is grim. This longest running military and political occupation in modern history has resulted in:

• The creation of the most militarized place on Earth.

• Contamination by unexploded ordnance, depleted uranium, and military toxins.

• The largest amount of  GMO acreage anywhere on Earth - over 40,000-60,000 acres planted throughout Hawai'i, one of the world's most sensitive and endangered ecosystems.

• Death and illness of Kanaka Maoli (Hawaiian natives).

• Disproportionate imprisionment of Kanaka Maoli.

• Widespread desecration of native burials and important cultural and sacred sites.

• Multi-generational psychological trauma and physical damage to Kanaka Maoli, resulting from colonization, occupation, genocide and erasure.

• Widespread environmental damage to the land, fresh water, and surrounding ocean due to military, commercial, industrial, agricultural, and tourist development. Diversion of fresh water from small family farms.

• Threats to Hawai'i and other countries throughout the entire Pacific by the The Trans-Pacific Agreement (data to come)

"Just Say NO! to Hawai'i's Occupation"

We especially need the help of United States citizens to turn this situation around. Why allow any more of your tax dollars to be spent on maintaining the unlawful occupation and causing even more damage on a daily basis? Kanaka Maoli and descendents of Hawaiian nationals are saying "enough" and are demanding immediate return of their country, sovereignty and independence. Please contact your elected federal officials and ask them to "Just Say No to Hawai'i's Occupation!"

EDUCATING THE CONTINENT

REPRINTED HERE AS A COMMUNITY SERVICE

(A project of the Mainland Council of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs.)

Our goal is to educate our people and present all sides of the story so that we can make informed decisions that will affect this generation and our generations to come)

Reposted from an email dated 7/24/2014:

Kala mai, some of this information may not be news to you, but for the benefit of those who were not on the initial planning please allow me to reiterate our intent.

Hawaiians are at a crucial historical point and presented with an unprecedented opportunity to move forward as a people. The Department of Interior (DOI) is asking how we would like to create a Nation to Nation relationship between the US and the Hawaiian people. So, there is some urgency to pass information about the truth of the overthrow of the Hawaiian Monarchy and the current legal status of the Nation of Hawai`i.

We certainly can have some form of meeting(s) in the midwest to pass information to the various Hawaiian communities there. This is not only for Hawaiian Civic Clubs, it's open to all that want to engage on this topic. Ho`ohanohano i ko Kūpuna Na`auao in San Diego was a community meeting that three different Hawaiian Civic Clubs came together to share the cost of bringing this information to the community. The meeting in San Diego was very successful. You can see the vimeos (3) at::

Plan "A" to continue bringing information to the Hawaiian communities on the continent included an ask to OHA to fund travel for experts from the `aina to come to various locations on the continent to have a face-to-face meeting. They didn't have enough money in their discressionary fund to allow the budget we proposed for all of the meetings. We will continue to seek funding from OHA and for the time being, move on to plan "B" or "C".

Plan "B" is to hold townhall meetings that we can have electronic face-to-face community meetings to pass on vital information to our community.

Plan "C" is to have people go to the various vimeo or youtube presentations for them to watch and learn individually. One would hope that they are doing this any way.

The fact that DOI chose only three sites to engage with Hawaiians on the continent does not change the intent of these meetings..."to inform our community". That will continue even after the DOI timimg for comment has passed. But, the time for comment to DOI closes on 19 August. If we are asking our lāhui to civicly engage with the DOI there is some urgency to the timing of these meetings, locally. Not all communities need this either. Some have already made their local Hawaiian communities aware of the political consequences of the overthrow of the Hawaiian Monarchy.

Las Vegas will be a mix of live and electronic participation. Los Angeles and San Francisco are still in the planning stage. At this point there is no funding. Please advise how you would like to proceed, or if you cannot, what would it take to help you pass information to your community effectively in a timely manner. Let me know what we can do to help.

HEWA! DEPT. OF INTERIOR ADDS NEW FEDERAL RECOGNITION HEARINGS

IN THE U.S.

REPRINTED HERE AS A COMMUNITY SERVICE

The US Dept. of Interior is suddenly adding more Indian Country hearings to places where there are significant Native Hawaiian populations nearby within the United States.  So far, a new one has been announced for Las Vegas this Sunday, July 27.

Below is a summary sent to American Indian leaders asking them to stand with us in opposition to the DOI proposal. Please send it on to anyone you know in the areas Listed below.

U.S. DOI HEARINGS - The Latest Assault on Hawai`i

BACKGROUND -

The Hawaiian Islands are not part of the United States.

For over a hundred years the United States told everyone that it lawfully acquired the Hawaiian Islands and that in 1959 Hawaiians willingly joined the US as a state.

The truth is, it’s a lie. In recent years, Hawaiian patriots have successfully exposed the United States' fraud, and that under international law, the Hawaiian Islands are still a sovereign independent country and the United States is actually just a big, lying, occupying bully.

As a result, Hawaiian patriots have been fervently working with nickels and dimes to free their country and restore independence. Meanwhile, the occupier and their Hawaiian-American collaborators are pouring in tens of millions of dollars seeking to keep Hawai`i under the US and 'launder’ the problem to make it look legitimate; and sucker Hawaiians into a tribal relationship with the US.

Why are Hawaiian patriots outraged? All these years we were told we were adopted; but then we found out we had been kidnapped!  So now, instead of setting us free, the kidnapper wants us to continue living with him, under his rule - and if we do, he’ll give us some nice things.

HAWAIIAN-AMERICAN TRIBE -

The scheme to make Hawaiians into a domestic tribe of the US began 14 years ago when a US Senator from Hawai`i, Daniel K. Akaka, submitted a “federal recognition” bill to the US Congress. This was backed wholeheartedly by the most powerful man in the US Senate, Daniel K. Inouye, also from Hawai`i. Their combined influence and resources, along with those of the State of Hawai`i made for a formidable campaign. On top of that, the state Office of Hawaiian Affairs spent $25 million of our money (from our trust fund) to get this bill through the US Congress.

But our people — with no money, but with the truth and a lot of heart — fought against it and prevailed… We stopped the Akaka Bill!

By 2012, the Democrats (the ones behind this all along) had failed to get “federal recognition" through Congress and decided to try another way. The idea was for the fake State of Hawai`i to ʻcreateʻ a Native Hawaiian tribe and then, using the president’s executive powers through the Department of the Interior, confer federal recognition of the newly-concocted Hawaiian tribe.

DOI HEARINGS -

What is going on right now? The US Department of the Interior is going through the motions to adopt rules and procedures that will allow them to “recognize” the Native Hawaiian tribe as one of the 500-plus tribes already federally recognized.

The DOI recently held 15 consultative hearings on five of the Hawaiian islands. They were met with strong opposition at every meeting with 80-90% of the people saying loud and clear … we know who we are (Hawaiian subjects/nationals/patriots); we know what we want (independence); and we definitely know what we don’t want (US federal recognition as an American Indian tribe.)

In effect, the DOI panel ran into a firestorm of staunch Hawaiians saying “NO WAY!"… But we know the Feds are not going to give up easily.

DOI INDIAN COUNTRY HEARINGS -

So now the DOI is shifting their consultation to Indian Country. We are concerned that the DOI is not going out to talk to our brothers and sisters in the towns and villages, but to those running the casino-resorts…who would be more likely to support the DOI proposal.

Our experience in Hawai`i is that the US government listens more to the trough-feeding, sell-out native institutions (like the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, the Native Hawaiian Roll Commission, the Department of Hawaiian Homelands, the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement, etc.) than to native peoples clinging for existence.

With four of the five hearings to be held at Indian casino/resorts, most likely the leaders of those casino tribes are going to support the DOI (Bureau of Indian Affairs) proposal to create a Native American-Hawaiian tribe… To use a gambling term, “The fix is in!"

We need your help!

Please let everyone in the vicinity of these hearings know and encourage them to go and testify against the DOI proposal. The DOI deliberately made the proposal complicated by asking 19 questions to which people are to respond. So how to respond? What position to take? Just stand in solidarity with Hawaiians who say absolutely “NO” to federal recognition on all counts. Those testifying don't have to be Native American or Hawaiian…anyone who will speak on behalf of freedom for the Hawaiian people…not further captivity under the kidnapper.

You can find those 19 questions as well as simple and easy responses you can quickly cut and paste right here - http://TinyURL.com/19Questions
